Automated Warehouse
The Design and Construction of the Fully Automated High-Bay Warehouse System represented a monumental undertaking aimed at revolutionizing the LEGO Group’s global warehousing capabilities in Hungary.
With a project value of $60 million and spanning a duration of three years (one year for design, two years for construction), this ambitious initiative aimed to streamline operations and enhance efficiency on a massive scale. The warehouse system boasted an impressive capacity of 70,000 EU pallets, holding approximately 20% of the LEGO Group’s global in-house warehousing capacity. This is about 3,000 truckloads of LEGO components stored in one warehouse facility.
Utilizing cutting-edge automation technology, the warehouse system was designed to operate without human intervention, effectively replacing a manual warehousing operation that previously required over 300 personnel. Featuring towering warehouse buildings standing at 38 meters high on a footprint size of 30,000 m2, the project required the expertise and collaboration of an international team comprising specialists from Denmark, Czech Republic, Hungary, India, Holland, and Germany.
